The Sisters’ Curry Meein Ayer Itam is one of the oldest and most famous food stalls in Penang. Renowned for their heritage food taste, the curry mee is a must try for visitors in Ayer Itam. This local art mural is being created in honor of the sisters and can be found behind one of the alley ways of Ayer Itam town.
Since their retirement a couple years ago, the curry mee stall is now managed by their grandniece and it operates from morning to noon daily.
The most famous curry mee stall in Penang is arguably the Sisters’ Curry Mee Stall at Ayer Itam town. Located just across the road from the Ayer Itam market, the two elderly sisters who operate the stall have been in the business since 1940s (sometimes dubbed as Penang’s living heritage). Their curry mee’s chili paste is homemade using their own secret recipe and in this sense, is unique from the other usual curry mee. They operate the stall daily (except Tuesday), from 7:30am till 1:00pm.
Curry Mee is a popular local food here which can be found in most coffeeshops or hawker food courts in Penang. It is a type of yellow noodle dish served with cubes of pig’s blood, cockles, cuttlefish, shrimp, and fried tofu puffs, all of these in a coconut milk curry gravy.
