Named after Charles John Irving, the acting Lieutenant-Governor of Penang from 1879 to 1880, Irving Road is a rather small street in George Town which can be accessed from Dato Kramat Road.

George Town Street View: Kampung Malabar
Kampung Malabar is actually a street that links up Penang Road and Cintra Street in George Town. Its name was derived from a Malabari village during the 19th century. The Malabaris were originally from Kerala, India and were artisan construction workers. The area was later dominated by the Chinese and Japanese during the 1900s.

Also known locally as the ‘Fifth Street’ in Hokkien or Lebuh Macallum in Malay, Macallum Street was named after Colonel Sir Henry McCallum who was also a British Colonial Engineer of the Straits Settlements during the late 1800s.
George Town Street View: Hutton Lane
Hutton Lane (or Jalan Hutton) was named after James Hutton, a British who also happened to be one of the first doctors in Penang. Hutton arrived in Penang during the early 1800s and subsequently became the sole registered doctor practicing in George Town several years later. Starting from Larut Road, Hutton Lane passes through Transfer Road to Penang Road.

Named after Shantou (also known as Swatow or Suatao), a city on the eastern coast of Guangdong province in China, Swatow Lane is a small street in George Town which links up Hutton Lane with Burmah Road.
Dato Koyah Road Street View
Dato Koyah Road or locally Jalan Dato Koyah, is a rather small road in the heart of George Town that can be accessed via Penang Road. The road was named after Syed Mustapha Idris (who was also known as Dato Koyah), a famous Malabari faith healer in George Town during the early 19th century.
The intersection of Penang Road and Dato Koyah Road is marked by the closed and abandoned “Kayu Nasi Kandar” shop.

George Town Street View: Burmah Road
Burmah Road (or Jalan Burma) is a long stretch of road that starts from Penang Road in George Town connecting all the way to Gottlieb Road, beyond the outer reach of the town. The road was named so due to a large number of Burmese who used to live in the vicinity of Pulau Tikus area where this road passed through.
It was also known locally in Hokkien as Chia Jui Lor or loosely translated as “Water Carting Road”, a reference for the past old days when water was being carted along this road back before the water pipeline system existed.

George Town Street View: Seck Chuan Lane
Seck Chuan Lane (or Lorong SeckChuan) is a small road that mainly links up Buckingham Street and Chulia Street. It also has a smaller lane that leads out to Carnarvon Street. The street was apparently named after a local by the name of Khoo Seck Chuan, who owned lands in George Town, Penang during the 19th century.
There is a steel rod art sculpture located along this street (the end near Chulia Street).
