Toh Soon Cafe

Located at a small alley way that connects Campbell Street and Kampung Malabar Street, Toh Soon Cafe is an old but popular coffee shop that serves toast and coffee. The unique point about this old shop is its bread which is grilled using the traditional way, with charcoal fueled fire. Aside from its toast, the coffee served is one of the best local Hainanese style coffee in Penang.

Toh Soon Cafe usually opens from 8am to around 3pm and it is normally crowded.

Located amidst the Uda flats in Tanjung Tokong, Ah Wang Cafe’s toast is a popular and old favorite among the locals here for tea time. The toast is normally served with its homemade kaya, or rather with a combination of kaya and butter. There are a few types of breads available, including wholemeal Benggali bread (as shown here). In addition to toast, the cafe also serves drinks like coffee and tea. The best time to go here is during late noon, from 2-4pm as the cafe only opens after noon (closed on Sundays).

Most coffeeshops (or kopitiams) in Penang will be able to offer this typical breakfast set (toast with half boiled eggs, often with a cup of hot coffee) which is also popular with the locals here. There are a few coffeeshops around town famous for their toast and coffee.
