Penang “Hop-On Hop-Off” Double Decker Bus

A couple of months back, the Penang Hop-On Hop-Off bus service was launched to promote the island’s tourism and places of attraction. Equipped with Wi-Fi, the buses feature sky view and open deck, disabled-friendly facilities and travel through routes that covers 50 major attractions on the island. For those interested in exploring the heritage sites and streets of George Town, there is the ‘City Route’ bus while those who want to enjoy the beach and natural area of the island may hop-on to the ‘Beach Route’ bus.

For MyKad holders, the tickets are RM19 for adults and RM12 for children. Tickets are valid for 24 hours.
For non-Malaysians, tickets are priced at RM45 (adults) and RM24 (children above five and below 12).

George Town Festival 2013

Held for a period of one month annually to commemorate George Town’s 2008 recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site status, the George Town Festival is the biggest event in Penang showcasing various works of arts, performance, music and film. This year, the festival will be running from 7th June to 7th July 2013. The official launching of the event will be on the 8th June 2013, 3.00pm at the Esplanade with a kite-flying ceremony featuring various kite makers and kite flyers from the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Penang Isle: The Esplanade

The Esplanade area is a popular tourist location at George Town as it houses the Fort Cornwallis, the City Halls as well as an old lighthouse which overlooks the Penang Harbour. The large Esplanade field is also the venue of major festivals held at the island (such as New Year celebration, cultural show, and the Bon Odori festival). The seafront of the Esplanade is a popular place to fish day or night while during the night, there is a foodcourt nearby selling local delicacies.
