A large colorful mural of a giant chicken painted by artist Mike Makatron in the alley of George Town. This alley is called Che Em Lane (Lorong Che Em), also one of the narrowest streets in the heart of George Town. The lane is also known as “Chicken Alley” as back in the old days, this lane was used commonly by poulterers.
The alley is linked to Beach Street as well as China Street. It can be found on the side wall of Cecil Rajendra & Assoc’s firm building as shown in the map below;
Located within the green colored Sky Hotel building at Chulia Street, George Town, the old Wai Kee food stall is popular locally with its ‘char siew’ or barbeque pork. It usually starts its business at around 11am and by 2pm, the food will be sold out. Besides ‘char siew’, it also serves roasted pork, steamed chicken and roasted duck.
This steel rod sculpture can be found at Che Em Lane, a narrow lane off Beach Street. According to the steel caricature, Che Em Lane was once known as “Chicken Alley” as it was mostly used by poulterers in the olden days.
