This miniature Japanese Garden was originally created from an exchange programme between the Penang government and the Itabashi city of Japan in 1994. This mini Japanese Garden, used to represent a symbol of friendship between the two cities, was restored in recent years.

This small Japanese style garden is located nearby the Penang Botanic Gardens, as part of the extension of the gardens that also includes the The Bambusetum Garden and the Sunken Garden.
Penang Isle: The Japanese Cemetery
The Japanese Cemetery located near Jalan P. Ramlee (or near to the P. Ramlee Birth House) is a very old historical cemetery that dated back in 1893. All of the gravestones are before the World War II, and belong mostly to the Karayuki-san – Japanese women who traveled to or were trafficked to East Asia, Southeast Asia and as far as San Francisco in the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century to work as prostitutes, courtesans and geisha.

Yet another mural painted for the Urban Xchange International Street Art in Nagore Road, George Town.
Penang Street Art (Okinawan Mythology Murals)
The Okinawan Mythology Murals located at a back alley of Stewart Lane were painted by Japanese artist Takayuki Miyazono. The murals tell the story of a common Okinawan folklore on Kijimuna (キジムナー). Kijimuna are said to be small wood spirits according to Okinawan mythology. They are said to live in trees, commonly on the banyan tree and are often described to look like a child with red hair covering their bodies and large heads.

Penang Street Art (Stewart Lane Murals)
The back alley of Stewart Lane behind the walls of Hutchings School is now the home to two different sets of art murals; the first set being painted by an artist with the initial “Edd” and the second set of murals painted by Japanese artist Takayuki Miyazon.
