Located at a small alley off Keng Kwee Street (Lebuh Keng Kwee) (where the famous chendul stall is located), this recent mural can be found right behind the Ming Xiang Tai Pastry Shop at Penang Road, George Town. The mural depicts two children trying to take a ride on the pastry shop’s cart. Another similar but more popular mural can be found at Ming Xiang Tai Pastry Shop’s outlet at Armenian Street Ghaut.
Held on the 16th September every year, Malaysia Day commemorates the establishment of the Malaysian federation on the same date in 1963. The date marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore to form Malaysia (although Singapore was later removed two years after being a part of Malaysia).
Old and big Angsana trees provide much needed shade to the road users of Macalister Road in Penang. The Angsana trees were said to be planted along this western section of Macalister Road by Charles Curtis, once the curator of the Penang Botanic Gardens in the late 19th century. Macalister Road is also one of the major and longest roads on Penang island.
Scotland Road is a major road which connects the Ayer Itam as well as Green Lane area to the Western Road (Jalan Utama). It also passes by the Penang Turf Club, a major horse racing course which was established in 1864 in Penang.
A long stretch of road that also happens to be one of the busiest on the Penang island, Jalan Masjid Negeri (or commonly known here as Green Lane) connects to various popular or major areas of the island. It is often associated with high traffic, especially during rush hours on weekdays as well as during weekends – a contrast of its former self which was used to be a rather quiet road on the outskirts of George Town.
The Udini Underpass in Gelugor is perhaps one of the busiest roads in Penang and is also the first and only underpass located on the Penang island. The underpass usually greets those who arrive at the island from the mainland (and who are heading towards the central and northern parts of the island).
A popular local stall, Apong Guan has been in business for many years and can be found along Burma Road, just in front of Union Primary School in George Town.
Apong Guan is a small apong stall along Burmah Road in front of Union Primary School and diagonal from the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Apong or apom is a type of pancake that is commonly made here in Penang, and a favorite dessert amongst the locals.
