Penang Street Art (Transfer Road Sidewalk Traders)


Another steel rod sculpture installed at the traffic light junction of Transfer Road and Hutton Lane at George Town.
This sculpture depicts the traders and vendors (mainly from China in the old days) who set up small businesses along the five foot sideway in the area. Some of these small traders would later rise to be among the wealthiest in Penang.

Penang Isle: General Post Office (Bangunan Tuanku Syed Putra)

The Penang General Post Office is located within the Bangunan Tuanku Syed Putra (literally, Building of Tuanku Syed Putra) at Downing Street, George Town. As the first major government office in Penang after the country’s independence, Bangunan Tuanku Syed Putra was named after Tuanku Syed Putra, the Raja of Perlis, who was also the country’s third King during 21 September 1960 to 20 September 1965.

Penang Isle: Christian Cemetery

As the the resting place of Penang’s European pioneers, the Christian Cemetery at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah road in George Town is the oldest of such cemetery in the island. The cemetery (also referred to as Protestant Cemetery) is the resting place of  Captain Francis Light (the Founder of Penang), the early British governors of Penang, the husband of Anna Leonowens (“Anna &  The King”), and also the founder of Penang Free School. The cemetery is mostly shaded by trees with tombs as well as gravestones inhabiting the area since 1789.
