The skyline of Pulau Tikus area in Penang. The golden pagoda structure belongs to the Wat Chayamangkalaram Temple, a Siamese temple which houses a giant sleeping Buddha.
The beautiful old colonial era houses at Bangkok Lane once served as the homes to the family of Cheah Leong Keah, a successful businessman at that time, who was also the one who built these houses. These pre-war houses possess a distinct architecture which infused both Eastern and Western style, as compared to the common heritage townhouses in George Town. The houses’ design was devised by an architect named Chew Eng Eam.
Bangkok Lane was named as such due to the Thai (and also Burmese) community who also used to live in this area. The road connects Burmah Road and Kelawei Road.

The Penang Botanic Gardens is also the home to some of the oldest trees on the island.
One of the things to do in Penang is to take a quiet stroll along the path that goes around the Botanic Gardens. The surrounding lush green forest and the occasional sight of small creatures from the woods make this a worthwhile walk.
Despite being a small island, Penang is also a home to many old forests and natural landscape.
The Queen Victoria Memorial Clocktower located nearby the Betel Nut roundabout in George Town (King Edward’s Place) is one of the famous landmarks in the island. The 60-feet high tower was built by Penang millionaire Cheah Chen Eok to commemorate Queen Victoria’s 1897 Jubilee at that time.
