

An old and heritage building incorporating Art Deco design, the Penang Masonic Temple was established in the 1920s by The Royal Prince of Wales Lodge No. 1555, United Grand Lodge of England, and Lodge Scotia No. 1003, Grand Lodge of Scotland, for the purpose of a meeting place for its members.

Western Road: The Old Christian Cemetery
Since the 19th century, the Western Road Cemetery is the largest and one of the old Christian cemeteries on the Penang island. The cemetery borders the Penang Municipal Park and can be accessed through a small opening at the park or via its main entrance at Western Road.
The Majestic Theater

The Majestic Theater is a historical and old cinema built in the 1920s at Khoo Sian Ewe Road‘s junction in George Town, Penang. Established by a wealthy Chinese businessman, Khoo Sian Ewe, the cinema serves as one of the earliest entertainment outlets for the local Chinese community here in Penang. The old building went through a renovation recently and is now being transformed to a center for theatrical performances and exhibitions.

Khoo Sian Ewe Road is a small road in George Town city center, which was named after Khoo Sian Ewe, a son of a Chinese Kapitan. During his time, Khoo Sian Ewe is a well known philanthropist and one of the largest property owners in Penang. Besides being knighted by the British Empire and being a member of the Straits Settlements Legislative Council, he also contributed in the establishment of several historical buildings on the island with one being the famous Majestic Theater, an old but historical cinema in Penang.
Hutton Lane Street View
Contrary to being named a ‘lane’, Hutton Lane (Jalan Hutton) is actually one of the busy streets in George Town. It is named after James Hutton, a British who also happened to be one of the first doctors in Penang.
Passing by Chung Ling High School

Chung Ling High School in Ayer Itam is a Chinese boys’ school and also one of the oldest and most well known Chinese schools in Penang. Founded by the local supporters of Dr Sun Yat Sen in the early 1900s, the school was originally established in George Town, before moving to several locations until it was finally relocated to its current location in 1923.

A major road in George Town, Transfer Road was named as a commemoration for the transfer of Straits Settlements administration from the British India office to the colonial office in London in 1867.

The origin of this Hong Kong Shoe Store located at Kimberley Street, George Town can be traced back to the similar name shop in Muntri Street where Jimmy Choo, the world renowned shoe maker, had his apprenticeship back in the old days.
Ku Din Ku Meh Mansion


Now known as “Segara Ninda“, Ku Din Ku Meh Mansion is an old and historical bungalow located at the junction where Penang Road meets Farquhar Street in George Town. The bungalow is an old heritage house built during the British colonial era in the late 19th century, with traditional Malay design style. It used to belong to Tengku Baharudin bin Tengku Meh, the governor and King of Satun, Thailand in the early 1900, who was also known as Ku Din Ku Meh. The bungalow now belongs to the descendants of Ku Din Ku Meh and the restored building now also provides a lodging service.

A street mural featuring Beethoven with a piano. This art work is painted by Yakuzart Creation, and can be found at one of the walls along a small alley leading to the Grand Swiss Hotel at Chulia Street, George Town.
