Every year, during the Chinese New Year festive period, the famous and iconic Kek Lok Si temple will be illuminated to celebrate the festival.
Locally known as Penang’s “Avatar” Secret Garden, this recent addition to the island is actually a renovated and re-developed mini park at the small hill behind the Tanjung Tokong Tua Pek Kong Temple. The trees as well as the hill and its surroundings are decorated with various lightings (that change and illuminating different colors in intervals) which almost resemble the Pandora forest from the movie Avatar.

During Chinese New Year, the Kek Lok Si temple complex in Penang will be brightened with lanterns and decorative lighting for almost a month, making it a dazzling spectacle at night.
The newly renovated row of shophouses at Rope Walk or Jalan Pintal Tali lighted up during the night in George Town.
Various figurines which light up at nights including the 12 Chinese animal zodiacs and the Monkey King can be found at the Esplanade in George Town as Penang ushers in the 2016 Chinese New Year, also the Year of the Monkey.
Kapitan Keling Mosque lighted up at night.
Arguably the most popular spot in George Town, this hour of the night proves to be a good opportunity to take photo of the famous street art mural ‘Children on a Bicycle’, drawn by Ernest Zacharevic.
