“After Dusk”, the opening event of the George Town Festival 2025, transformed Padang Kota Lama (Penang Esplanade) into a vibrant nightscape on August 2–3 (update: extended till 10th August now) from 5pm-11pm with projection-mapping on Town Hall by Filamen (titled “TERANG”), cultural performances like “Starry Night” and “Transmute: Dengung Dalam Sepi”, a musical fusion set “Rhythms & Roots”, and a bustling night bazaar called “A Market Under a Starry Night” featuring local crafts and food. All events were free and celebrated this year’s theme, Rojak, symbolizing Malaysia’s colorful blend of cultures.

As part of the effort to rejuvenate the old Bagan town in Butterworth, this area is being developed as Butterworth’s very own art space. This ‘outdoor art gallery’ hosts various art works or murals from local artists and is organized by Zart Inventive.

Kek Lok Si during Chinese New Year
Like every Chinese or Lunar New Year, the famous Kek Lok Si temple complex will be lighted up during the nights of the festive period in Penang. Throngs of visitors will be going up the hill temple to marvel at the display of the lights.
George Town Festival 2019: WHEN NIGHT FALLS
The first event of the 2019 George Town Festival is WHEN NIGHT FALLS, which is held at the Esplanade area from 13 to 14 July, 7pm to 11pm. The event is a series of performance and lights display, featuring the following:
- Compagnie des Quidams from France performing FierS à Cheval
- Moz Drums from France performing The Lighted Drummers
- Teatro Pavana from The Netherlands performing Le Ballerine & Night Colors
- FILAMEN, a local projection mapping community group which will showcase a variety of beautiful animated visuals onto the facade of the Penang Town Hall.

SETIA SPICE Rooftop Garden and Park (Evening Views)
SETIA SPICE Rooftop Garden and Park is a landscaped garden rooftop of the SETIA SPICE Convention Centre which also features a large outdoor space, mini gardens and children playground. Admission to the rooftop garden is free and it is open to the public currently.
