Penang Street Food: Sky Hotel (Wai Kee Char Siew)

Located within the green colored Sky Hotel building at Chulia Street, George Town, the old Wai Kee food stall is popular locally with its ‘char siew’ or barbeque pork. It usually starts its business at around 11am and by 2pm, the food will be sold out. Besides ‘char siew’, it also serves roasted pork, steamed chicken and roasted duck.

Muntri Street: Gala House Cafe and Restaurant

Gala House is a restaurant and cafe made up of a two-storey heritage style townhouse located along Muntri Street, George Town. It serves various pasta (quite well known for its fusion style), western cuisine as well as coffees and other drinks. Additional space is available at the upper floor and the balcony too for those who enjoy a sip of coffee or beer while overlooking the street below.

Previously, the same townhouse is also the home of another restaurant called Soul Kitchen.

Bayan Baru: St. Presso Coffee

St. Presso cafe is located at the recently completed Elit Avenue in Bayan Baru, far away from the heritage zone of George Town where most such cafes are located. Despite the location, the cafe has been gaining popularity among the locals and people from around the area.

Hutton Lane: Secawan ‘n’ Such


Secawan ‘n’ Such is one of the latest cafes to join the trendy cafe scene in George Town. The cafe retained most of the interior elements of the old heritage shoplot of which the cafe is housed within. It also features two large art murals on its interior walls, which were painted by Gabriel Marques, a friend of the famous artist Ernest Zacharevic.

Campbell Street: Moustache Houze

Established since 2013, Moustache Houze is one of the several cafes located along Campbell Street (towards the end of the street, right before the old market). As what its name suggests, the cafe features the moustache theme and one of its specialties is its Espresso Ice Cube drinks (something similar to the drink from The Loaf). There is also a mural painted within the interior of the cafe.

Stewart Lane: The Alley Cafe


Tucked along the small alley of Stewart Lane beside the famous Kuan Yin Temple in George Town, The Alley cafe is a rather hidden cafe that is popular locally with its churros and cronuts. The cafe itself is actually housed in a former Chinese paraphernalia shophouse called Kedai Gaharu Keat Seang.
