This old but iconic McDonald’s Restaurant at the Sunrise building in Gurney Drive will be closed down soon after serving the local population for many years. It used to be a very popular McDonald’s outlet in Penang and almost every Penang born adult would have visited this outlet at some point in their lives here.
Burmah Road: Loke Thye Kee Building
Loke Thye Kee is an old and historical building that can be easily recognized as it stands at the corner of Burmah Road and Penang Road. Built in the late 1920s to resemble a ship, the building was a popular Chinese restaurant back in the old days until its gradual decline. The building was later renovated and restored in 2012 to its present state. Now, the building houses a few cafes and eateries.

Muntri Street: Gala House Cafe and Restaurant
Gala House is a restaurant and cafe made up of a two-storey heritage style townhouse located along Muntri Street, George Town. It serves various pasta (quite well known for its fusion style), western cuisine as well as coffees and other drinks. Additional space is available at the upper floor and the balcony too for those who enjoy a sip of coffee or beer while overlooking the street below.
Previously, the same townhouse is also the home of another restaurant called Soul Kitchen.

Muntri Street: Soul Kitchen
Soul Kitchen is a little restaurant/cafe converted from a pre-war 2-storey house located at Muntri Street, George Town. The relaxed atmosphere and retro decoration of the cafe give it a great place to have a brunch or a cup of coffee amidst the old heritage streets of the town. The cafe was founded by married couple Michele and Tonio who met each other in Munich. China House
China House, a popular dining and lifestyle place located right at the heart of George Town, is a convergence of a fantastic restaurant/cafe, an art house and a lively night bar. The place is actually made up of 3 colonial era buildings linked via an open courtyard in the middle. The restaurant entrance of China House faces the Beach Street while the entrance to the bar (called the Canteen) is located at the other end, Victoria Street.
