This miniature Japanese Garden was originally created from an exchange programme between the Penang government and the Itabashi city of Japan in 1994. This mini Japanese Garden, used to represent a symbol of friendship between the two cities, was restored in recent years.

Penang Avatar Secret Garden (Tanjung Tokong Tua Pek Kong Temple)
Locally known as Penang’s “Avatar” Secret Garden, this recent addition to the island is actually a renovated and re-developed mini park at the small hill behind the Tanjung Tokong Tua Pek Kong Temple. The trees as well as the hill and its surroundings are decorated with various lightings (that change and illuminating different colors in intervals) which almost resemble the Pandora forest from the movie Avatar.

A recent addition to the Tanjung Tokong Tua Pek Kong temple area is a small park that features colorful LED lighted flowers. This small park near the seaside is built about a very small hill behind the temple, with stairs going around it.
At night, the place becomes Penang’s Avatar Secret Garden.
