Ernest Zacharevic’s “Art is Rubbish/Rubbish is Art”

Art is Rubbish/Rubbish is Art is an ongoing art exhibition displaying the fine works of Ernest Zacharevic (the artist who helped propelled Penang into a street art sensation). The exhibition is open to the public for free and will be running from 17 January until 14 February. This first solo exhibition by the artist will feature a number of his popular art pieces and will be held at the Hin Company Bus Depot, a former bus depot site in George Town which has been abandoned for a long time. This shophouse is located along Victoria Street and is at the cross junction corner of Gat Lebuh Acheh (Acheh Street Ghaut) and Victoria Street in George Town.

Penang Street Art (The Five Foot Way Illusion)

This large portrait print of a ‘five foot way’ pasted on a side wall of a building at Armenian Street provides an illusion of a continuous walkway.

A steel rod art sculpture showing a caricature of a traditional Indian goldsmiths who used to set up stalls (by working on a bench) along Queen Street back in the old days.

This recent wall painting can be found just opposite the The Cat and the ‘Bruce Lee’ mural at Ah Quee Street.

This art work is done by local artist Kenji Chai.

Penang Street Art (The Lego Stickers)

This is not a painting but rather large paper printouts pasted on the wall of an alley at Ah Quee Street. This Lego mural was originally drawn by Ernest Zacharevic in Johor but due to a controversy surrounding it, the mural was removed by the local authority there. Someone has found a way to replicate the mural here in George Town.

Green Hall Street: Brew Thirty Two Coffee House

Brew Thirty Two Coffee House is one of two newly established cafes along Green Hall, George Town. It serves its signature mille crepes in addition to main course meals such as all day breakfast, and of course, various types of coffee. It is located at the same row of shophouses with Kaffa Espresso Bar.
