The most famous curry mee stall in Penang is arguably the Sisters’ Curry Mee Stall at Ayer Itam town. Located just across the road from the Ayer Itam market, the two elderly sisters who operate the stall have been in the business since 1940s (sometimes dubbed as Penang’s living heritage). Their curry mee’s chili paste is homemade using their own secret recipe and in this sense, is unique from the other usual curry mee. They operate the stall daily (except Tuesday), from 7:30am till 1:00pm.
This laksa stall at the Ayer Itam Market is popular with tourists and is usually crowded during weekends or holidays. The stall has been in operation for many years at Ayer Itam town.
One of the few iconic places in Penang is the hilltop temple known as Kek Lok Si, which means “Heavenly Temple” or “Temple of Supreme Bliss”.

Located at Zoo Road in Ayer Itam, this main branch of Ah Leng Char Koay Teow can be found at a residential housing area and off the main roads. Ah Leng, the man itself, can usually be seen frying his Char Koay Teow during the evenings (the stall opens in the evening). There is another branch located at Dato Kramat Road, George Town which is usually manned by his children.

A major road in the hilly area of Penang, Jalan Balik Pulau connects the Ayer Itam town with the Balik Pulau town through a long road that also goes through the hilly area via a hill path. It also passes by the famous Kek Lok Si temple.
