Penang City
Penang has been officially declared a city by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the King and head of Malaysia. In conjunction with the declaration, the Penang state government is organizing several events to celebrate the accordance, including City Day Celebration on 4 April.
The state has been applying for George Town to be granted city status since January 2010 and the Malaysian government finally approved the application last November 2014. George Town was already given city status based on the royal charter from Queen Elizabeth II on 1 January 1957, but this was not acknowledged by the Malaysian government.
