Annually during the 7th lunar month of the Chinese calendar (also known as the The Hungry Ghost Festival), the giant effigy of the King of Hades/Hell (or Tai Su Yeah) will be put on display at Bukit Mertajam town for devotees to offer prayers to. On the 15th day of the month (which happens to be today), the effigy will be transported to the street and then burned to mark the end of the festival.
The old Shree Kunj Bihari temple (also known as Sri Kunj Bihari Temple or Shree Krishna Temple) is a North Indian temple located at Penang Road, at the heart of George Town. Built in the 1800s, the temple was the first place of worship for the Indian community in the area, who came from North India.
As the only mosque at the top of Penang Hill, the old Penang Hill Mosque (or Masjid Bukit Bendera) serves as the the ‘highest’ Muslim place of worship for the local community there.

Wadda Gurdwara Sahib is an old Sikh Temple located at Brick Kiln Road (or also known as Gurdwara Road) in George Town. A Gurdwara which means “a door to the Guru” is the place of worship for Sikhs however, anyone is welcomed in the Sikh Gurdwara or the Sikh Temple. It was found that Wadda Gurdwara Sahib was also known as ‘Diamond Jubilee Sikh Temple’ due to the fact that the land where the temple is built upon, was given to the local Sikh community in 1897, which marked the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
Also known as the Penang Hokkien Methodist Church, the Chinese Methodist Church in Madras Lane was built in 1937 incorporating European and American church style architecture. It is the first Chinese churches in Penang, and was founded by Dr West and Lau Seng Chong from Singapore who reportedly first started their gospel work among the Chinese Hokkien community in Penang in 1895.

The Sri Muniswarar Temple located along Jalan Baru in Prai, Butterworth, is one of the famous and oldest Hindu temples in Penang. The temple was said to be established during the 1870s by a group of Indian immigrants working with the British East India Company.
