
Kampung Kolam is actually used to be a small village that was named after a large granite tank that was present back in the old days of the house of Kapitan Keling. Kapitan Keling was the head of the local Tamil Muslim community during that time and the tank had been supplying water to the poor back then.

Named after the famous Downing Street in London, the British built their government offices on this street in George Town, Penang during the colonial era. It is one of the oldest and historical streets in George Town and currently houses the state post office and the HSBC bank.
