This large art work portraying two people who appeared to be engaged in silat, a traditional Malay martial art, is the second mural painted by Russian street artist Julia Volchkova in Balik Pulau town, Penang.

A Kampung House (Selamat Hari Raya)

A Malay kampung house at Balik Pulau, Penang. Kampung simply translates to village in English.

Every year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri (or Hari Raya Puasa) is celebrated by Muslims worldwide on the 1st of Syawal (according to Hijrah Calendar) to mark the end of Ramadhan. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a national holiday in Malaysia and this year, it falls on the 17 July 2015. In general, the Muslims here will be going back to their hometowns to celebrate it with their families and this is commonly called “balik kampung”.

To all Muslims out there, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Penang Isle: P Ramlee’s Birth House

P Ramlee House

P Ramlee was a famous entertainer in Malaysia, and a local legend who was born in Penang back in 1929. This replica house was built to mark the place of his birth and also to commemorate his legacy. The house is open to the public with free admission and is located at P. Ramlee Road.
