The Nine Emperor Gods’ Temple at Macallum Street Ghaut, George Town.
Primarily observed by the local Chinese, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival is a 9-days Taoist celebration beginning on the eve of 9th lunar month of the Chinese calendar. This year’s celebration started last week and today is the last day. During this 9-days period, devotees will be observing a strict vegetarian diet. It was said that it usually rains on the last day of this festival.
George Town Street View: Queen Victoria Memorial
The Queen Victoria Memorial is a monument erected to mark the anniversary of the said British empire’s queen who passed away in January 1901. Also serving as a way to honor the queen, the monument was built and sponsored by the local Chinese business community back then.
The monument is located in an area belonging to the Penang Chinese Recreation Club at Macalister Road, but can be easily spotted from the intersection of Pangkor Road (Jalan Pangkor) and Burmah Road.
Penang Street Art (The Rotan Cane Sculpture)
This steel rod art sculpture can be found beside the wall of a rattan shop in Chulia Street, George Town. The caricature depicts a mother buying a rattan cane while a boy was hiding behind the bush, for fear of the cane (or locally known as “rotan”). The rattan cane was commonly used as a ‘disciplinary tool’ back at home and in school during the old days.

Lorong Muda Street View
Lorong Muda and its “Joss Stick Maker” street art wall sculpture in George Town. Lorong Muda (or Muda Lane in English) is a rather narrow lane that links both Stewart Lane and Market Lane. This little lane is famous for its traditional joss stick maker.

Penang United Buddy Bears Art Exhibition
From August 31st till October 30th 2016, Penang will be hosting the 149 of the friendly buddy bears of the United Buddy Bears exhibition.
The United Buddy Bears is an international art exhibition that has been held in many countries around the world. The exhibition features more than 140 fiberglass bears in a hand-in-hand ‘peaceful’ circle that promotes tolerance, peace and understanding among the various cultures and different nations in the world. Each bear sculpture is painted by the respective nation’s artist.
This exhibition is being hosted at the open field of Esplanade, George Town.

Ayer Itam War Memorial Park
The Ayer Itam War Memorial Park is a small park that was renovated a few years ago to feature the Overseas Chinese Anti-War Memorial, the World Peace Memorial sculpture, the Penang Chinese Relief Memorial and a large intricately detailed mural depicting relief aids and operations being carried out in China during the Second Sino-Japanese War (that was later culminated into World War II).
The white obelisk of the Overseas Chinese Anti-War Memorial, the park’s original and first memorial, was also built to commemorate the sacrifice and effort of the Chinese people in Penang during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
The Ayer Itam War Memorial Park is located just beside the Ayer Itam Roundabout in Ayer Itam, Penang.
