Green Hall Street: Kaffa Espresso Bar


A newly established cafe at Green Hall Street, Kaffa Espresso Bar joins a myriad of such similar cafes which are opening all over George Town in recent years. Kaffa Espresso Bar provides a retro-like and cozy ambiance while serving nice food (such as Big Bites All-Day Long Breakfast Platter) and coffee. The cafe’s official website is http://www.mykaffa.com/ and the cafe opens 8am – 10pm from Monday to Sunday.

Note: Kaffa Espresso Bar is not to be confused with the Kaffa Kafe at Straits Quay or China Street.

Chulia Street: The Mugshot Cafe


The Mugshot Cafe is one of the many recent small cafes that have mushroomed all over George Town, taking advantage of its heritage status popularity. It serves its own homemade bagels (one of its main draw) which are sourced from the Rainforest bakery next door (both of which are owned by the same people). It is a popular place for both locals and foreigners to hang out and especially for breakfast. The cafe is located along Chulia Street and opens daily from 8am-9pm.

Penang Street Art (Cultural Girls)

A mural caricature depicting three different girls in traditional costumes from the three primary races in Malaysia. This art mural can be found at the purple-painted wall of a shophouse located along Armenian Street. The same wall faces the Soo Hong Lane and also houses another steel rod sculpture.

The Goddess of Mercy Temple (Kuan Yin Teng)

The newly renovated Kuan Yin Temple at Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling (or formerly Pitt Street). Locally known as ‘Kuan Yin Teng’ (literally Kuan Yin’s Pavillion), this old temple is dedicated to Kuan Yin, who is the Goddess of Mercy according to Chinese belief.

Muntri Street: The Camera Museum

Opened this year from a renovated pre-war shophouse located along Muntri Street, the Camera Museum showcases various retro or vintage cameras besides having a photography exhibition gallery. The cameras on display are of various shapes and designs with some vintage cameras up for sale at its gift shop. There’s also s small cafe inside the museum. The museum opens daily from 9am to 8pm and its Facebook site is https://www.facebook.com/PenangCameraMuseum. There is a RM20 entrance fee for adults, RM10 for students and senior citizens to access the cameras display hall.
