Penang Esplanade is currently host to a multitude of lantern sculptures which light up during the night, showcasing the various iconic or famous landmarks from around the world. The sculptures are placed there as part of the state’s domestic tourism events during the pandemic period.

Lantern style sculptures of a dragon and a phoenix from the Chinese culture are on lighted display at the Esplanade in George Town. These sculptures are made for the Chinese New Year celebrations in February but due to the pandemic and movement control order, not many people managed to visit them. Therefore, they are still being put on display till now.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is an official harvest festival celebrated widely by the local Chinese here. The festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar during a full moon.
