A steel rod caricature installed at a building along Chulia Street Ghaut depicting the dual role performed by policemen of Penang island in the early 1900s who also acted as firefighters.
The Theater of Ships
As part of the George Town Festival 2013, the Theater of Ships, is an art installation by Indonesian artist Joko Dwi Avianto and can be found at the Town Hall and City Hall area. This bamboo art work will remain there for public viewing during the festival’s month long duration.

It was said that back in the old days, a famous and notorious Chinese secret society had made their headquarter at Church Street, the same street that also housed Portuguese churches.
Penang Street Art (The Voting Finger)
A painted ‘finger’ with a blue paint splashed on top of it to depict the inedible ink used on the finger during the Malaysian General Election previously. This art work can be found at Soo Hong Lane , the narrowest lane in George Town.
Penang Food: Hainanese Chicken Rice
As a ‘food paradise’, Penang is also particularly famous for its Hainanese Chicken Rice. Most kopitiams (coffeeshops) in Penang will have one stall selling Hainanese Chicken Rice.
Penang Food: Mee Goreng & Mee Rebus
The Mee Goreng or fried noodles dish is a common dish in Penang and usually fried with eggs, vegetables and cuttlefish.
The Mee Rebus (literally “boiled noodles” in English) is a popular noodle dish popular in Malaysia, especially Penang. It is typically made of yellow egg noodles, wwith a spicy slightly sweet curry-like gravy. The gravy is made from potatoes, curry powder, water, salted soybeans, dried shrimps, and peanuts.
