Penang Street Art (Couple on a Bicycle)

A recent addition to the series of street arts of George Town is this art mural of a couple riding a bicycle happily, painted by local artist Caryn Koh. Caryn Koh is also the girl featured in another large art mural (Looking Up) painted by street artist Jarus.

This particular art work can be found at Keng Kwee Street (or Lebuh Keng Kwee), the same street where the famous Penang Cendol stall is located.

Penang Road: Shree Kunj Bihari Temple

The old Shree Kunj Bihari temple (also known as Sri Kunj Bihari Temple or Shree Krishna Temple) is a North Indian temple located at Penang Road, at the heart of George Town. Built in the 1800s, the temple was the first place of worship for the Indian community in the area, who came from North India.

George Town Heritage Day Festival 2017 (7-9 July)

This year’s Heritage Day celebration and festival are being held from 7th to 9th July at the heart of the heritage zone in George Town, such as the areas around Armenian Street, Kampung Kolam and Ah Quee Street. The theme for this year’s festival is “Walk the Talk: Oral Traditions and Expressions”, which showcases the local communities’ culture and language/dialect such as Indian Muslim, Teochew, Malayalam and Telugu. There will be cultural shows, interactive activities and performances along with history-guided trails on the origins of the heritage streets in George Town.

The 3 days festival starts in the evening till the nights.

George Town Street View: Queen Victoria Memorial

The Queen Victoria Memorial is a monument erected to mark the anniversary of the said British empire’s queen who passed away in January 1901. Also serving as a way to honor the queen, the monument was built and sponsored by the local Chinese business community back then.

The monument is located in an area belonging to the Penang Chinese Recreation Club at Macalister Road, but can be easily spotted from the intersection of Pangkor Road (Jalan Pangkor) and Burmah Road.

Western Road: The Old Christian Cemetery

Since the 19th century, the Western Road Cemetery is the largest and one of the old Christian cemeteries on the Penang island. The cemetery borders the Penang Municipal Park and can be accessed through a small opening at the park or via its main entrance at Western Road.
